St. Johnstone 0 - 1 Aberdeen

Aberdeen held on at McDiarmid Park to record two away win in a row for the first time this season. Eugene Dadi was the goal hero, with his strike in the 43rd minute being enough to collect all three points. Aberdeen looked as though they would go on to a comfortable win, but they made heavy weather of affairs and the home side had a couple of half chances late on to salvage a point.

After a quiet start to the match, Miller almost gifted the Dons the lead in the second minute when his throw landed at the feet of Robbie Winters. The keeper made a great recovery to parry the forward's 20 yard drive over the bar. Saints created their first opening in the 5th minute when Parker beat McGuire on the left, but his finish didn?t really test Kjaer in the Aberdeen goal. Two minutes later Eugene Dadi went close with a 20-yard free kick following a foul on Derek Young. The game then went through a passage of play where neither team were able to get any rhythm going and passes were frequently going astray.

The Dons had a reasonable penalty claim turned down in the 15th minute when Guntveit appeared to be tripped by Dods just inside the penalty area. Referee Willie Young was not impressed and waved play on. Paul Hartley then had a chance from a free kick, but Kjaer easily held his 30-yard effort as the game cried out for a goal. Dadi was lucky to escape a booking a minute later when he got himself involved in a fracas with Jim Weir and appeared to lift his hand. The referee calmed the situation with a quiet word with both players.

Dadi went close on the half-hour mark after collecting a Bisconti pass on the edge of the box. A bit of neat footwork saw him elude two defenders before hitting a sweet shot inches wide of the target. Four minutes later both McAllister and McGuire made important interceptions to deny Saints a scoring opportunity. Parker should have given the home side the lead in the 37th minute as he beat McGuire only for Kjaer to pull off a magnificent diving save to his right. Aberdeen should have taken the lead in the 41st minute when a Winters shot on the edge of the box was deflected into the path of Dadi. The striker was one on one with Miller, but somehow the keeper made a magnificent one handed save to equal the earlier effort of Kjaer.

Aberdeen took the lead in the 43rd minute and it was Eugene Dadi who provided the opening. Derek Young released Winters on the left and his cross found both Dadi and Young at the far post. Dadi?s looping header beat Miller and entered the net via the far post to give the Dons a valuable half time lead.

Thornley replaced Derek Young at the start of the second half and the Dons started on the offensive with both Winters and Bisconti having chances in the opening minute. Aberdeen had a great chance to extend their lead in the 51st minute when Dadi delivered a great defence splitting pass into the path of Guntveit. The Norwegian was forced wide and his cut back was met by Thornley, but his effort was blocked as the home defence regrouped. Aberdeen were well on top at this stage, but they were in need of second goal to make the game safe. Thornley almost fooled Miller in the 61st minute when he curled in a cross which almost crept in at the back post.

The 71st minute saw Bisconti burst into the box only to be closed down as he shot. The ball then came out to the edge of the box where Thornley forced Miller into a comfortable save. A minute later Dods got on the end of a free kick, but Kjaer also dealt with the situation comfortably. Mackie replaced Dadi in the 81st minute as the Dons struggled to finish the saints off and were beginning to endure a fair amount of pressure in their own penalty box. Mackie put his pace to good use almost immediately and the Dons won a free kick wide right as McNaughton was felled on receiving Mackie?s pass. From the resultant free kick Whyte shot wide of Miller?s left hand post.

Saints almost stole an equaliser in the 86th minute when Murray had a free header on target from a Lynch cross. Fortunately for the Dons the effort was weak and Kjaer held the ball easily. Solberg replaced Winters in the 89th minute as the Dons held on to another valuable three points.
