The Dons actually had two clear-cut chances to grab an early lead. Bagshaw missed a good chance early on and McInnes then forced the Rangers keeper to make a great save. Unfortunately these misses were to prove costly and the visitors grabbed the lead on the half hour mark when McColl reacted quickly to score from a corner. Worse was to follow six minutes later when Kelly made a hash of his kick and it landed at the feet of Campbell. The Rangers captain accepted the gift and fired the ball past the keeper.
Neil Cooper spoke to Redweb after the match to reflect on the poor start. "You can't defend the way we did today against any side and expect to win, but especially not against a side a good as Rangers. All the goals we gave away were from set pieces, which was disappointing, and this is something we are going to have to work on. However I was pleased with the spirit shown by the boys in the second half as we competed a lot better and apart from the penalty they had few chances."
