Dons settle for a draw in dundee

Kevin McNaughton eased his way towards a top team comeback, playing the opening half of the young Dons share of the spoils against Dundee at Dens Park this afternoon.

Aberdeen took the lead in the 20th minute when a Kevin Souter through ball found Richard BUCKLEY, whose excellent strike gave Derek Soutar no chance. The Dons had chances to increase their advantage and both Souter and Michele Lombardi saw headers go close.

After the break, Lombardi saw his excellent volley crash back off the crossbar and the woodwork came to the home team's rescue shortly afterwards, this time from the head of Craig Higgins.

Against the run of play, the dark blues equalised with a quarter of an hour remaining when, following a corner kick, the ball was knocked home by Jon VOIGT.

Manager Neil Cooper was pleased with his side's performance. "To be honest, we could have won by four or five, such was our dominance but it was a positive showing from a very young team. We had planned to give Kevin McNaughton a half before the game and he came off at the interval along with Ryan Esson, who had felt a twinge in his thigh."
