Hamilton Accies 0-5 Aberdeen FC
Scorers: Brown, Low (pen), Masson, Gibson (2)
ABERDEEN Under 19's swept aside their Hamilton counterparts at a windy New Southcroft Park on Friday afternoon. Neil Cooper's team got their first win of the season on the boards thanks to some clinical finishing allied to solid defending at the other end.
The young Dons were put under some early pressure, but managed to appease the advances of the home attack, thanks in part to good goalkeeping from Scott Bain and commanding defensive play from captain Scott Ross.
As the first half wore on, the Reds grew in confidence, and it looked like only a matter of time before the visitors would make the break through.
Jordan Brown did just that, turning his rebound past the helpless Hamilton keeper, who'd saved his first attempt. Aberdeen made it two from the penalty spot after Nico Gibson had been taken down inside the box - comeback kid Nicky Low netted from 12 yards just before the break.
In to the second half and the Dons picked up where they left off in the first. Substitute Jamie Masson made it three, placing a Callum McRobbie corner neatly in to the net. McRobbie turned provider again shortly after that, his through ball to Gibson was inch perfect, and he kept his composure to finish.
The scoring was rounded off with arguably the goal of the game. Dean Jarvis did the donkey work - his mazy run in to the box left three Hamilton defenders floundering - before his square ball was finished in style by Gibson, for his second goal of the match.
Under 19's Manager Neil Cooper was full of praise for his players after the match. He told RedWeb, "This result will give us plenty of confidence for the season ahead.
"It wasn't easy conditions to play in as the wind was blowing all over the place. Again we started with a relatively young, and inexperienced side, but they stood up to the challenge.
"They looked a little bit nervous to begin with, but I have to praise the likes of Scott Bain and Scott Ross who led by example out there. Their performances helped the other lads, who went from strength to strength as the game wore on.
"We created great chances for ourselves and we really could've scored a few more goals in the end. I'm very happy with the boys and their all round performance this afternoon."
