In recognition of his five years' service at Pittodrie James Soye, the Aberdeen outside right, got the proceeds of the match in which Aberdeen and Dundee participated yesterday at Pittodrie. There was an attendance of 1000 at the start, but this was augmented to 2000 before the finish.

Aberdeen had the better of the opening stages, and the game was minutes old when a penalty was given against Macdonald. Hannan took the kick, but Balfour saved, and the ball rebounded to Hannah, who, however, sent it behind. Dundee were at the other end immediately, and Wyllie tested Barclay, who did well to save from Adams. In the tackle with Hannah, Wyllie was injured, and Dundee had to play with 10 men for a time.
The game continued to be evenly contested, each goal being visited. Barclay had to clear from Adams and Wall, and he tipped a high return from Thomson over the bar. Later a fine cross by Hogg so Barclay in difficulties, but he cleared well. At the other end Brewster skied. Dundee settled down to a nice forward game, McCulloch and Hogg having some clever runs. Keith injured his hand, and Aberdeen played a man short for a time, but the half-back returned. The game was played in a friendly spirit, and, although there was little excitement, some clever touches were shown, especially by Wall.
Aberdeen held the upper hand two wards the interval, and Calvert had a good try, which Balfour saved, while later the same player just missed with a good effort, but Walker found the net with a strong shot. Dundee came very near to getting the equaliser, Wall hitting the upright from close range, and then Barclay saving on the post from Wyllie, while Adams missed an open goal.

Aberdeen tried experiments in the second half. Soye went outside left, Keith outside right, and green left-half. Aberdeen were hemmed in for a time, Wall on two occasions nearly getting the equaliser. After a prolonged siege Robertson executed a clever run, and Soye hit the side net with a good shot. The Aberdeen left wing supplied a brilliant run, and Walker missed a goods chance by heading over Soye's perfect centre. Dundee's goal had another narrow escape just later, Walker hitting the crossbar. Dundee got the equaliser as the result of clever play by Wall. He drove from 20 yards' range, and Adams, catching the rebound, netted. Aberdeens strove hard for the lead, Robertson testing Balfour with a good effort.
Play continued interesting enough, but the game was of the easy-going order, with little between the teams. Play ruled from end-to-end, but neither side was particularly deadly at goal.

Considering the occasion was a benefit match with nothing at stake, the gate quite realised expectations. The sum drawn at the gate totalled about £40, while a collection taken on the ground amounted to £4. This is exclusive of ticket money, and it is expected when this has been realised that the sum accruing to the player will amount to £60.
