Hamilton 3 - 3 Aberdeen

Played at Hamilton before 3,000 spectators. Aberdeen kicked off, and the opening was sensational as Dargoe got away clear on the Academicals' left and scored with an oblique shot. Aberdeen then took the aggressive, but they invariably rushed the ball too far forward, so the home defenders had little difficulty in clearing. Aberdeen, on the restart, played with a dash which upset the Academicals' defence, and Edmond was several times called on to clear his lines. The Academicals got their second goal from a penalty, which Welford converted, but after this the Aberdeen bombarded the home goal, and the ball was rushed through, while the equaliser came from a penalty. When Aberdeen shortly took the lead, the excitement was great till Chalk again brought the sides level with a fine shot, all this scoring being done in twenty minutes. Result:- Hamilton, three goals; Aberdeen, three goals.

Aberdeen journeyed to Hamilton and met the Hamilton Academicals on Douglas Park in a Second Division League fixture. Fully 3000 people lined the ropes. The teams lines up as follows:- Aberdeen: Macfarlane; Mackie, D. McNicol; Halkett, Strang, Low; Knowles, G. McNicol, Ruddiman, McAulay, Ritchie. Hamilton Academicals: Edmonds; Thomson, Welford; Kilday, Scholes, Cowan; Blackburn, Chalk, Wilson, McNab, Dargue. Referee ? Mr. P. Hodge, Dunfermline.

Ruddiman opened for Aberdeen, and carried play to Edmund's charge, Where Thomson beat off Ritchie. The Academicals rushed immediately thereafter to the other end, Dargue, beating Mackie, crossed in nice style, and Chalk registered the first point for the Hamilton team. Aberdeen's front rank showed clever football, Ritchie getting well into the Academicals' quarters ere relief came by Welford dispossessing Ruddiman. Chalk let Blackburn away with a clever slip, and from his cross Wilson shot into Macfarlane's hands. A smart raid by the Aberdeen forwards looked like bringing the desired equalizer, Welford fouling McNicol, but Kilday cleared the free kick. Even play followed, both goals being assailed, but the defences were generally equal to the occasion. Clever tackling by Low gave Ritchie an opportunity to show his paces, but the left winger shot too early, and Edmonds had no difficulty in negotiating the effort. The Rangers' recruit showed many fine touches on the Academicals? right, his heady play making openings for Blackburn, but McNicol had usually the upper hand of the Academicals? extreme player. A fine burst by Wilson brought the Academicals into touch with Macfarlane, who saved splendidly. Play was very much in favour of the Academicals as the interval drew near, but the stalwart defence of the Aberdonians kept them at bay. A rally by Ruddiman was the means of enlivening matters, Edmonds, however, saving.

The second half opened sensationally, four goals being scored in the first fifteen minutes, and two of these from penalties. First Welford converted a penalty for the Academicals, giving them a lead of two to nothing; then McNicol scored for Aberdeen, followed immediately after by Low scoring from a penalty. The visitors stuck to their work, and wit the forwards giving a vastly improved display, they soon put on the leading goal, McNicol again doing the scoring. The game proceeded on the same lively lines as had characterized the play from the start, and the interest, which had never flagged, was fully sustained when Chalk scored the Hamilton team?s third and equalizing goal.
