Northern League
Dunfermline scorers: Kellock

19/01/1907 | KO:

The Aberdeen A team traveled to East End Park, Dunfermline, on Saturday to meet the local team there in a Northern League engagement. Teams:-

Dunfermline: Thompson; Pitbldo, Herd; Simpson, Innes, Anderson; Kellock, Livingstone, W. Anderson, Fraser, Hunter.
Aberdeen A: Mutch; Willox, Gault; John Robertson, Simpson, Gowie Robertson; James Robertson, Lawrie, Young, Hilton, McKenzie.
Referee - Mr. Nisbet, Edinburgh.

The homesters kicked off, and would early have got within the home territory, but James Robertson headed past. The custodian had a lively time, but he smartly fielded a close shot and scraped another past the post. So far the home forwards had failed to get on the move, although Anderson strove hard for an opening. Improving as the game preceded, and with their full complement of players on the field, Athletic improve, and Livingstone forced a corner. Innes made a strong effort in front of goal, but he was overwhelm when numbers. Robertson, on the Aberdeen right, had a good individual run, but Pitbldo caught his cross and relieved. A good opportunity was given to Hunter after Willox had misheaded. The home backs were giving a fine display. The best shot of the match so far came from Young. Innes got the ball from a throw-in, but his pass to the left was of his own fine judgment. Play of the home right wing was spoiled by the inefficiency of Kellock. A fine clear by that blood oh was opportune - at a time when Aberdeen were pressing strongly. Fraser, Hunter, and Kellock, carrying the ball by a series of headers to the Aberdeen goal, but after it had rebounded from head to head offside was given. A foul against the home goalkeeper for keeping the ball too long in his arms looked dangerous, but lining the goalmouth the ball was scrambled past, and nothing came from the corner. A good try by Hunter was blocked by an opposing player, notwithstanding fine play by Innes, who was giving numerous openings to the forwards. Fraser was again at fault in the goalmouth. The homesters were now easily the better team, and but for execrble shooting would have been a goal or two to the good. Livingstone was working hard on the right. Anderson and Hunter carried the ball to the goalmouth, and with only the keeper to beat the formal banged the ball against his body from two yards' range, and the was lost. A fine pass into the goalmouth was well fielded by Anderson, but Mutch saved in great style. The next minute Kellock, however, found the net with a beautiful effort.

The opening movement in the second half was well judged by the home forwards, but Anderson missed a high pass, and the pressure was relieved. Introducing increased vigour, the Aberdonians strove hard to get the equaliser, but the Athletic, having found a way, we're maintaining the supremacy. Livingstone when well set agoing, was badly fouled. The same player crossed in fine style, and Mutch had to run out to clear. Playing better together, the home forwards were now are dangerous. In attempting to catch a pass from Livingstone, Hunter fisted the ball into the goal. Mutch saved in smart style. A pass from Anderson resulted in a corner. The homesters kept up the pressure, but, try at what they could, they could not find the net.

Dunfermline One Up.

The A's had a long journey to Dunfermline on Saturday. Either the journey or lack of training seemed to put the A team forwards completely out of their game. What weakness there was in front was made up for in defence. Mutch. in goal, gave a great exhibition, and could not have saved the goal which went up against him. Willox and Gault were also in fine trim, and had a lot of work in keeping out the Carnegie sharpshooters. Dunfermline came again and again, and only the sterling defence kept them out. The visiting forwards played the poorest game they have done this season. Therewas not a good one in the lot and for all they did the score might have been anything but 1-0. An improvement is urgently required in the shape of keeping these lads in closer touch with each other. The home side deserved to win, and but for Aberdeen's defence would have had a respectable score up; however, one goal is as good as six, so far as the points are concerned.
