It was a poor game that was witnessed on Dens park, where the reserves of the Aberdeen and Dundee teams were struggling in the first round of the 2d XI Scottish Cup. The result - a draw of 1 goal each - was satisfactory to all concerned, and on the run of play only what was deserved.
Aberdeen were the first to score, but their goal was a very questionable one, Davidson being glaringly offside. Bell's effort for Dundee, however, was a great one, his shot from far out going straight and true. Dundee worked hard thereafter for the winning goal, but failed in their attempt.
Herd put in a good afternoon's work in goal for the Granite City men. Some of his saves were very smart, including a penalty. The backs were rather shaky, Boyle being perhaps the better. Low was the best of a good half-back line. Harvey and Hilton constituted a fine right wing, although Jaffrey on the extreme left showed his pace to some advantage.
Towns was safe in goal, and was not to blame for the points scored against him. Lyon was the best back on the field, and but for one miskick never made a mistake. Bruce played a rare game at half, and was the leader of the line, followed by killer. Individually the forwards were all right, but they lacked combination. Bell and Kerr on the extreme wings played splendidly, but Anderson at centre was off.
