Brechin City 1 - 0 Aberdeen

HT Score: Brechin City 1 - 0 Aberdeen

Northern League
Brechin City scorers: Glen

02/03/1907 | KO:

At Nursery Park, Brechin, before a large crowd. Teams:-

Brechin City: Morrison; McKenzie, Lyon; Melvin, Nicoll, Moncrief; Chapman, Easson, Glen, Graham, Hunter.
Aberdeen A: Mutch; Willox, Gault; Davidson, Simpson, Robertson; John Robertson, James Robertson, McKinley, Lawrie, McKenzie.
Referee - W. Davidson, Arbroath.

Aberdeen kicked off, and in the earlier stages did some pressing, but with the advent of Easson, who was absent at the start, the venue changed to the other end. Give and take play followed, and a struggle between Gault and Glen resulted in the former putting the ball past. Hunter, picking up the ball on the wing, had a nice run down, and passing to Glen, the centre found the net. The visitors worked hard to equalise, but the defence proved too strong, and once again Brechin proved dangerous, several corners being forced, but nothing came of them. The first period ended with Brechin leading by the own goal.

In the second half Brechin had the better of the exchange's, but weak work in front of goal spoiled some promising chances. Aberdeen were working hard to draw level, and proved dangerous or more than one occasion, several likely shots making the local spectators gasped, but Morrison wrote off some fine saves. Time came with Aberdeen making two wards the Brechin goal, without further scoring.

The A's Lose by the Odd Goal.

It was a good game at Brechin on Saturday, but the A's were a good bit behind their previous week's form. Plenty of chances came their way, but they could put little pith into their parting, contenting themselves with close passing and attempting to run the ball through. Brechin have a couple of sturdy defenders, and they did not scruple to size up the visitors' game, and relieved them of the ball quite easily at times. That Mutch was only beaten once was no fault of Brechin's, for they lashed the ball into him at every opportunity, till they succeeded in getting the goal, which also gave them the points. The A's seem to have struck a bad patch just now, and there will need to be a shuffle up amongst the forwards if they cannot score a goal.
