The Hearts then pressed, and Mercer and Smith tried shots, while Bennett a few minutes later forced Greig to concede a corner with a surprise shot, and the visitors were lucky in not having a goal put up against and. Aberdeen retaliated, and play preceded briskly, with neither side holding the advantage for any length of time. Nearing the interval the Hearts attack, and Bennett, who was running and shooting well, made a good attempt to snatch a goal. Greig had to give away a corner, but this was saved, and half-time was called without either team having scored.
Hearts resumed and broke away on the left wing, but Melrose shot wide. Aberdeen retaliated, and for some time the home goal had a few narrow escapes. Hearts to cut the attack. Aberdeen were no playing with 10 men, Low having been carried off. Two unfruitful corners fell two hearts, and still no score accrued. The Hearts' had the best of the game, but could not score.
