Falkirk 1 - 2 Aberdeen

Falkirk and Aberdeen met in their Second Eleven Scottish Cup tie, first round, at Brockville Park, Falkirk, before 2000 spectators. Aberdeen played Edgar at outside left. Falkirk a also showed a change, Taylor being substituted for McKinnon, who was drafted into the team against the Clyde. Teams:-

Falkirk: McPherson; Menzies, Laing; Marshall, Reid, Smith; Taylor, Gibbons, Rattray, Maxwell, Deans.
Aberdeen: Greig; Hannah, Harper; Davidson, Watson, Low; Dickson, Walker, Douglas, Campbell, Edgar.
Referee - Mr. Lorimar, Edinburgh.

Falkirk started, and Deans was well set, when he was dispossessed by Hannah. Aberdeen attacked, and McPherson saved on the ground. From Douglas, walker also had a shot, which was cleverly disposed of by McPherson. Harper fouled off Taylor's cross, and there were local shouts of "penalty," but the referee heeded them not. At the second attempt Davidson registered a grand goal. Run train narrowly missed, but later equalized from a penalty. Aberdeen were much stronger physically, but they found the young Bairns eager and clever. Dickon and walker were showing pretty football. The Aberdonians pressed, and McPherson had to handle a stinging ball from Hannah. Marshall nipped up a beautiful pass of Dickon's, and transferred. Edgar caught on, and Davidson had another try, McPherson fielding the ball and getting it well a way. Walker followed with a daisy cutter.

ABERDEEN FORWARDS SMART>

The Aberdeen forward play was really smart, and the Falkirk defence was kept continually anxious. From a free-kick just outside the penalty area Campbell tried to rush, but McPherson was too active. The bairns were making little progress against Hannah and Harper.
A concerted attack by Aberdeen ended in Dickson sending over. A fine opportunity was presented to Campbell by his partner, but he shot wildly past. Falkirk raised the gallop, but Taylor overran the ball. Both teams were very equally matched.

In the first minute Dickson was down on Laing, but the latter cleared with something to spare. Along snap shot by Rattray nearly caught Greig napping. A short, sharp, and brisk fusillade in Aberdeen ground followed. Harper got the ball out of danger. A similar scene was enacted at the other end, but the Aberdonians most a rare chance by Douglas getting offside. Laing tackled the Aberdeen right very successfully, and spoiled their combined efforts frequently. Along, swinging game was adopted by the visitors, and this was found very effective, Douglas, off a pass from the right sending in a high, swift ball, which completely deceived McPherson. Aberdeen were full of running, and McPherson saved bravely from Dickson at great physical sacrifice, being winded badly. The game was stopped attending his recovery. Falkirk had a spell of pressure, but Maxwell drove the ball past. With 20 minutes to go, Aberdeen held the narrow lead of 2 to 1.
