Aberdeen 3 - 1 Brechin City

Football was not of a high standard.Pittodrie on Saturday afternoon, when, in a Northern League fixture, Aberdeen reserves defeated Brechin City by 3goals to 1. The score a book represents the run of play, although the home side missed many favourable chances of scoring. There were about 2000 spectators witnessing the game.
There was little in the first half, at the end of which period no scoring had been recorded. Brechin City were the first to become dangerous, and R. S. Clark and Harper, the home backs, were busy for a time repelling the rushes of the visitors. Some good individual touches were supplied by Walker, the City inside right. On one occasion he executed a pretty dribble, and shot with great accuracy for Greig to save. On the Aberdeen side, J. Walker, also at inside right, was equally prominent. He repeatedly let his partner away in great style, and his pretty trapping and neat footwork did much to redeem the otherwise tame display of his side.

Play was much more interesting in the second half, when both goalkeepers were tested. Elrick cleared long drives from Davidson and low, while Clark and Watson had good shots, but over. Aberdeen monopolised the pressure for quite a long period, and ultimately the strain told on the visiting defence. The ball was returned repeatedly in front of the Brechin goal, and in a melee Campbell opened the scoring. Slack play by the Aberdeen defence was followed by the equalising point, secured by Cant, who dashed past Harper and scored. After this the ground team played and much more confident fashion, and good work by the forwards resulted in Campbell scoring a second goal. The visitors' goal had several narrow escapes after this, but getting possession from a long punt by Davidson, Edgar put the issue beyond doubt. Near the finish JS. . Lyon, the Brechin left back, twisted his ankle, and had to be carried off. Generally the winners, although an uneven side, were the superior combination, and but for good call keeping by Elrick and sound play by Shand and J. S. Lyon, Brechin would have suffered a heavier defeat.
