Reserves Beaten At Partick

The Aberdeen Reserve team travelled to Firhill, where Partick Thistle A beat them in the semi-final of the Scottish Second XI cup by 2 goals to 1.
The thistle kicked off, and Aberdeen forced matters on the left. The home defence cleared, however, and Branscombe made progress. A corner gained, proved fruitless. The visitors again make progress, Dickon and brown being prominent. A free kick against Thistle give the Aberdeen an opportunity but the ball was sent past. A nice run by Gardiner looked promising, but good tackling forced him to send the ball over the line. Once again the visiting forwards made progress, and an individual effort by Douglas gave Hamilton some anxiety. He cleared well, however, and the danger for the nonce was averted. Partick's defence was very sound. The Thistle forwards were smart, but good tackling by the Aberdeen halves gave them little chance to get within range of King. Aberdeen's centre, Douglas, was prominent with a nice shot, which gave the home custodian some difficulty.
Stewart and Robertson, with a combined effort, got within shooting range, but Stewart send past. Aberdeen were now the aggressors, and this time success attended their efforts, a fast shot by Douglas beating the home custodian. The Thistle were now are making strong efforts to gain the equaliser, but the Aberdeen defence was there every time. Again Aberdeen took the play to the home quarters, but Dunsmuir effectively cleared, and play was returned to Aberdeen territory, but the ball was sent behind.

The home team at once put on pressure on resuming, Branscombe sending in a swift shot, which King cleverly saved. Again the thistle attacked, Gardiner being prominent. After eluding the Aberdeen backs, he let drive and beat King. Thistle were now very dangerous, and the Aberdeen defence was kept on the stretch. The visiting backs defended pluckily, but after withstanding considerable pressure, they had again to acknowledge defeat, Gardiner once more bursting through and putting the Thistle on the lead. Thistle played with great confidence after this, and held their lead till the end.
