Aberdeen 2 - 1 Heart of Midlothian

At Aberdeen, before 10,000 spectators, in the third round of the Scottish Second XI Cup. The Edinburgh team had the greater part of the play at the start, and were unfortunate to have the only point of the first half against them, Fisher scoring for Aberdeen from a penalty. Murphy all but equalised with a fast shot, which struck one of the goalposts. Mackie scored a second goal for Aberdeen, and then Murphy reduced the lead from a smart pass by J. Blair. Whyte's defensive play for the Heart of Midlothian was outstanding, and on the Aberdeen side, Bainbridge, the South Shields player acquired recently, gave a good crisp display at outside left.

Aberdeen's second eleven were a bit fortunate beat Hearts A at Pittodrie in the third round of the Scottish Second XI. Cup by 2 goals to 1. It was Aberdeen's defence that saved them. Blackwell was in brilliant form, and brought off some remarkable saves. Both backs were good, while Sandy Grosert was the heart and soul of the halfback line. Robertson played hard and did some good work. The Hearts was the better moving side providing the superior football. Their front line moved with the smoothness of a well-oiled machine, but their finishing was at fault. Tait at centre showed remarkable energy, while the extreme wingers delighted all with their lovely crosses. Not for one minute during the whole game did interest flag, and it was one of the most exciting matches seen at Pittodrie. Hearts were unlucky to be down one at half-time, for they had as much of the game their opponents. In the last minute excitement reached fever heat. Hearts, in a splendid endeavour to equalise, positively bombarded the home team's goal until the final whistle brought relief.
Bainbridge, Aberdeen's latest acquisition, was the cynosure of all eyes, and he rose to the occasion. He started a little tamely, but touched his true form in the second half. He impressed the crowd most with his neat slipping to his inside man, and when he was partnered with Thomson the home forwards came a little more into the picture. He showed that he knew the quickest way to the goal, and never played to the gallery. He always parted to the beet advantage, while in the sprint he had the best of matters. With a capable inside partner he will undoubtedly prove a valuable member the league team.
