AN ironic touch about Aberdeen "A's" home defeat by Dundee reserves last night was the fact that of the victorious visiting team four were former Aberdeen players and two others were products of minor football in the city.
John Pattillo was the man chiefly responsible for Aberdeen's downfall. He and Irvine were much more effective wing half-backs than Anderson and O'Neill.
In attack, too, Dundee were more assertive, although the young Dons should certainly have had something to show for their second half pressure.
The Pittodrie half-backs did not help things by putting the ball in the air, which made things easy for George Merchant, who was a head taller than Ian Rodger. McNeill and Clelland, the home inside men, were too easily brushed aside.
From a home point of view the appearance of Alec Young was of most interest. He is obviously playing himself back to full fitness, but it will be some time yet before he ready for the first team.
McKenna missed a penalty midway through the first half, and eleven minutes from half-time Christie opened the scoring. Despite intensive pressure there was no goal for the home team in the second half, and with ten minutes to go Copland made it two.
