Nithsdale Fall Heaily
Victory in Alliance League matches appears to come very easily to Aberdeen A and today's match was no excetion, Nithsdale Wanderers being beaten by seven goals to two. The Pittodrie team was infinitely superior and might have won by a much bigger margin. With a six-goal lead at the interval Aberdeen A took things easily in the second half, and as a result the visitors had more of the play than in first period.A HURRICANE START.
Aberdeen started in hurricane fashion, and with eleven minutes played had found the net three times. Merrie got the first with his head, and the second came from David off a Wilson cross. The third came from a penalty, Merrie converting the spot kick. The visitors retaliated, and after a fruitless corner, Cree sent over. At the other end Donal missed a splendid chance, and Kelly facing the sun almost misjudged a high shot from McKenzie. Wilson got away on the home right and finished a splendid run by adding a fourth goal. Shortly afterwards Kelly smothered a shot by David, and then the same player penetrated the defence again to score a fifth point.
ONE FOR NITHSDALE.
The Wanderers replied with an attack on the left, and Ballantyne found the net with a long range shot. Nithsdale improves after this, but play was for the most part confined to the visitors' half, and before the interval David found the net a seventh time. Soon after the resumption Merrie and David both came near counting. Subsequently play favoured Nithsdale and Edwards shot past. A few minutes later Blackwell saved a shot from Cree at the expense of a corner, and from the flag kick Hickie blocked a shot by Edwards.ANOTHER TOR NITHSDALE
Thirty minutes after the restart, Newman, the outside left, scored a second goal off a pass from Allan. The Wanderers attacked with renewed vigour, and Blackwell had to deal with shots from Allan, Edwards, and the right half. Towards the finish Aberdeen rallied, and Kelly, in the Nithsdale goal was kept busy.Source: Press & Journal, 26th August 1929
