Winning by three goals to two at Ibrox on Saturday was quite an achievement considering that we had a young team on duty. John Gardine, David Scott, Andy Watson, Alex Grant and Alan Duguid are in their first season as senior players but they played their part in a fine victory.
Rangers scored first when slack marking allowed Strickland, the Rangers outside right, plenty of time to find the net with a good shot. We equalised five minutes later when Alan Duguid crossed a great ball into the penalty area for Alex Grant to sneak in behind the defence to volley the ball home.
With the score at 1-1 at half-time, we felt we had a chance of winning the game, but it was Rangers who went into the lead when slack defensive play allowed Colin Stein to force the ball over the line.
Our lads never gave up the fight and were rewarded when after a brilliant pass from Derek Fraser to Alex Grant. Alex squared the ball to Andy Watson who scored at the second attempt.
Out third goal was scored by Dougie Brown when he headed home a cross from Bobby Glennie. We could have added to our tally had Andy Watson and Alex Grant had a bit of luck. Andy hit the post after rounding the defence and Alex's header went narrowly past.
It was a great start to the season and if we can keep up displays like that one we should have another good season.
