Gibson Is Goal Hero For Wee Dons

We scored four goals at Parkhead last Saturday, in beating Celtic Reserves and I can't recall an Aberdeen Reserve side ever scoring more than three goals at Parkhead.
The pleasing thing was that the goals were scored by different players - Ian Gibson got the first after Dougie Brown had a shot blocked by Roy Baines the Celtic keeper. Brown himself scored our second when a long ball from Neil Cooper found Ian Gibson clear on the right wing and Gibby's cross found Brown all on his own in front of goal, and he had the empty net to head the ball into.
At half-time we were leading by two goals and our defence had never really been tested. After the interval we scored two more, the first coming when John Reilly took a corner on the right and Tommy Pye headed across goal where Alex Grant got a foot to the ball to poke it into the net.
Tom Pye got our fourth when, after good play by Ian Gibson, he headed the ball in at the far post. John Gardiner our goalkeeper wasn't over worked, but what he got to do he did well. Our central defenders Alec McLeish and Neil Cooper never put a foot wrong, Alec was outstanding in the air, and Neil's use of the ball caused problems for the Celtic defenders.
Andy Watson playing in midfield got through a power of work and was unlucky not to find the net on two occasions. Tom Pye, playing his first full league game, had an excellent match in mid-field. Tom came as an outside left but his game seems to have improved by taking a step further back. His tackling was good and his use of the ball was first class.
Overall it was a good performance from a team of youngsters, and if they can keep going the way they are at the moment, the future looks very bright indeed.
