The Aberdeen 9 - 2 Peterhead

HT Score: The Aberdeen 6 - 1 Peterhead

Friendly

16/04/1898 | KO:

Revenge.

When Peterhead visits Aberdeen they rarely give an exhibition of anything like good football. In fact the majority of them seem to lose all confidence in themselves, and the result is they return home soundly thrashed. The Aberdeen had an old score to pay off, and they took the field determined to rub it into their visitors. The Whites' full team turned out, and did pretty much what they pleased with their opponents, leading at half time by 6-1.
The second half was almost a repetition of the first, Peterhead just having an occasional look in. When the whistle blew, the game stood at 9-2 in Aberdeen's favour.

Short Kicks.

Without Mackie in goal goodness knows what the score would have been against Peterhead.
The Whites had it all their own way, and could have laid it on thicker had they desired.

The Aberdeen were at home to the Peterhead team, which has this season won distinction by defeating the "Whites" and the Victoria United at Peterhead. There was only a sparse attendance when the teams lined up as follows: Aberdeen: Ritchie; John Davidson, McConnachie; James Mackie, Henderson, Thomson; Livingstone, Cameron, Clark, Gray, Shiach. Peterhead: Mackie; Sutherland, Watt; Cowie, H. May, J. May; Coutts, Shand, Batty, Smith, Thomson. Referee: Mr J. Morrison.
Aberdeen won the toss, and Peterhead kicked off towards the railway. At first both teams had a look-in in turn, but gradually the home team asserted their superiority, and, scoring repeatedly through Clark and J. Mackie, had registered 6 goals to their opponents' 1 before half-time. In the second half play was of a more even nature, but the home team had again the best of the exchanges, and won the match finally by 9 goals to 2. For the home team, Clark, Cameron, Shiach, and McConnachie played well, while Sutherland, Mackie, and May distinguished themselves for the visitors.
