Pittodrie Free Nets As Young Dons Go Down

Our first competitive game against Dundee at Dens Park resulted in a 3 - 2 victory for the home team. This was a game that could have gone either way. Jocky Scott should have scored in the opening minutes, left with only Donaldson to beat he shot past the upright. Straight from the goal kick Dundee scored, Jim Crawford misjudged the bounce of the ball and after a scramble in the penalty area Ian Wilson scored with a great shot into the corner of the net from 20 yds. We had chances to draw level, but with carelessness and bad luck it was not until a few minutes before the interval that Jocky Scott got the equaliser from a fine pass from Bobby Glennie.
We started the second half in determined fashion but unfortunately we lost another silly goal; this time Doug Rougvie was involved. He should have headed the ball clear, but decided to leave it to the goalkeeper and Morris had an easy chance, Dundee scored again shortly afterwards to dampen our spirits. Again it was a Rougvie mistake that caused the trouble initially. Jim Crawford had the chance to rectify it, but his clearance went straight to Sinclair, the Dundee No. 10 who promptly banged the ball into the back of the net. Doug Brown got his customary goal for us seven minutes from the end and try as we might we just failed to get the equaliser. John Gardiner in goal played soundly for us, with Bobby Glennie and Ian Hair other stalwarts in defence. Jocky Scott, Duncan Davidson and Doug Brown were other players to impress.
Our next game is on Monday against Dundee United at Tannadice, where we hope to collect two points.
