We gained our first points in the Reserve League Cup when we beat Dundee by two goals to one at Pittodrie. Our goals were scored by Walker McCall after a Drew Jarvie shot had rebounded from the keeper, Drew scored the second one after good work by John McMaster, Morris scored for Dundee near the end with a well taken shot from outside the penalty area.
The most satisfying aspect of the game from my point of view was the work rate of Davie Robb (skipper for the night). His running off the ball and tackling was one of the features of the Game. Drew Jarvie also played his part and his goal was just reward for the power of work he did. Jim Crawford playing in the unaccustomed position of centre half had a good game and he may get an extended run in this position.
Ally McLean in goal had one terrific save from Gordon Strachan the Dundee mid-field player, but on the whole he had quite an easy time. By beating Dundee we allowed Dundee United to qualify for the semi-final of the Reserve League Cup. Dundee's tally was eight goals for and six against - 5 points Dundee United's was Nine for and Six against ? 5 points so it was very close. Our own tally was two points with Six goals for and twelve against, which was rather disappointing to say the least. We will have to work harder if we are to do anything in the league.
