Aberdeen 1 - 1 Partick Thistle

Aberdeen were plucky and lucky. They were at home to Partick Thistle, and played for fifty minutes of the game without Main. Even at full strength they did not show up so well at half-back and forward as in recent matches. The only goal of the first half, when they had the breeze behind them, was scored by Main just before he left. In the second period the Thistle were scarcely away from the home goal, but they shot too hurriedly, and they should have equalised long before Leitch netted. About 3000 saw the match at Pittodrie between Aberdeen and Partick Thistle. A strong westerly wind interfered with the play, but the game was well worth seeing. Aberdeen had the benefit of the breeze in the first half and did the most of the pressing, all be it their forwards were not going so smoothly as usual, and McLauchlan was below are. Partick's defence was sound and their forwards were a smart-like lot. McTavish was about the best. The wind spoilt the shooting, and it was 10 minutes before the interval before Main opened the scoring. Brewster and Cumming had a share in the honour, the half-back smashing through a ball which Cumming marvellously crossed, for the centre to net with a great shot. In the second. Partick gave the home defence know best, and their own had a comparative picnic, the four local forwards being seldom able to get within shooting distance. The Partick van shot hard and often, perhaps too often. They let fly first time, with pitiable recklessness, when a little care might have made a big difference. But Anderson had a lot to do and did it well. So did all the defenders. Leitch equalised with 10 minutes to go, and Aberdeen did more attacking in that last stage, during which Cumming, their best forward, was off for a time. Partick with a little bit of lock, would have won. Aberdeen were lucky but also plucky.
