FOUR GOALS SHARED IN HARD GAME,/p> A draw of two goals each was a fair reflex of a hard and interesting game played at Kynoch Park last night, when Aberdeen met Keith in a benefit game for Charlie Mann, the Keith left half. Keith delighted their supporters - and no doubt surprised Aberdeen - with the fine show they put up against their more experienced opponents. A feature of the game was the splendid defence of Keith-. Willox, Priestly, and Mitchell were an almost unbeatable trio. Bremner did lot of smart work between the sticks.
FAIRLY EVEN
The first half was fairly evenly contested, but the homesters were the more dangerous lot. On the whole, Aberdeen were lucky to cross over on level terms. Keith opened their account within a couple of minutes of the start, Fraser smashing home a cross from R. Morrison. The ball struck the net with such force that it rebounded out of the goal. Campbell had a chance to equalise but screwed the ball wide of the mark. Shortly after, W. Scott fastened on to cross from Campbell and levelled the score. Within a minute Keith were once more ahead. R. Morrison got the better of Robey and lobbed a beauty into the goalmouth for Fraser to head the ball out of Smith's reach. Before the equaliser came Aberdeen were lucky not to be further in arrears. A try by Penrose was just inches wide, and Smith had to make a desperate dive to pick the ball away from the feet of a Keith forward. Shortly before the interval Donald got the equaliser off a Campbell cross.DEFENCE FIRM
The second half saw Aberdeen all out to get ahead, but they could make nothing of the home defence. Keith were not content to accept a defensive role. They made frequent raids on the Aberdeen goal, and more than once nearly got the better of Smith. No scoring took place this half, and the game ended all-square. Fraser was the outstanding forward for Keith, and gave the Aberdeen defence no end of worry.Source: Press & Journal, 26th April 1938
