Great win for the young Dons at United

Aberdeen U18s continued their good form with a brilliant win against Dundee United on Tuesday evening, coming from a goal down as well.

With Barry Robson and Scott Anderson in charge of the first team, it was Gavin Levey and Stuart Duff who took a young side down to play United.

Their line up was boosted with the return from international duty of Liam Harvey, Dylan Lobban and Finlay Murray whilst keeper Blessing Oluyemi is part of the first team squad at the moment. Finn Yeats last week joined Highland League side Keith on loan for the remainder of the season.

It was a frantic first half with chances at both ends.

Dundee United opened the scoring about 28 minutes in. A good turn and finish from Stuart Heenan. The striker received the ball just inside the box and cut in beyond McKenzie before reversing his shot back across the keeper.

Frustratingly from an Aberdeen perspective, the goal came when the visitors had enjoyed a good spell.

The game continued to move from end to end, United were maybe starting to dominate the midfield area slightly. But on 41 minutes Aberdeen manged to get an equaliser through Liam Harvey who produced a brilliant finish. Real composure from the Aberdeen number 9 who scored for Scotland against England last week as well.

So the sides went in all square at the break.

United started the second half the stronger team, again getting on top in the middle of the park and were bringing their wide players into the game. A number of dangerous balls came into the box but credit to the Dons defence who stood firm.

On 60 minutes Alfie Stewart came on for Cammy Wilson, with the management team changing to 4-3-3 formation. Kai Watson then replaced Timi Fatona on 77 minutes. The game in the last half hour was very even and just as it looked it was heading for a draw, substitute Stewart produced a stunning finish to get the win.

Findlay Marshall found Stewart in behind the United midfield about 30 yards from goal. He turned and thundered an unstoppable shot into the top corner to put the Dons ahead with five minutes to play.

Alfie had scored the winner against Kilmarnock last time out as well.

After that the players battled hard to see the game out. A very good win away from home against one of the strongest sides in the league this season.
