All through the game at Fir Park the Dons "looked the part," whilst the home side tried to match the Dons' skill with strength and enthusiasm. The men of Motherwell succeeded in jolting Aberdeen out of their usual rhythm with the result that the forward line became a "thing of threads and patches." The defence throughout stood up well to the spasmodic attacks of the home side, and it was rather ironic that after the Dons had taken the lead it was a most unexpected show of "nerves" in the rear lines that eventually led to the penalty "incident." On play the Dons showed up as the superior footballing side—but they did not deserve to win!
