Played at Meadowpark, Coatbridge. Teams:- Aberdeen: Macfarlane; Murray, McNicol; Halkett, Strang, Low; Robertson, Edgar, A. Lowe, McNicol, Ritchie.
Albion Rovers: Muir; Smith, Mitchell; Chalmers, Ramsey, Boyd; Duguid, Darroch, O'Rorke, Main, Donnachie.
Referee - Mr. Gartshore, of Kirkintilloch.
The Albion Rovers kicked off. Some minutes after the Aberdeen pressed, and Lowe, the centre forward made a fine low shot, which glided past the upright. The Rovers' forwards now are attacked, and both O'Rorke and Donnachie missed easy goals. For some minutes Macfarlane was kept busy, but managed to keep his charge intact. The play a moderated a good that. Aberdeen had a find safe. After half-hour's play the Rovers' scored through O'Rorke, after a find that of play. Just at half-time Aberdeen began to press, but nothing was done until the whistle blew.
On resuming the home club pressed. Aberdeen backs were weak, as also of Macfarlane in goal. With 28 minutes go on the men of the north attacked strongly, but Muir was always on the alert. Boyd had a good tried for Rovers, and O'Rorke for the first time showed good play. Result:- Albion Rovers,1; Aberdeen,0.
The heavy ground militated against good football. Rovers played the forcing dame, and hence were seen to more advantage than the north men, whose attempts at find combination went for naught. The home forwards seemed to cover the ground more easily than their opponents, who were woefully weak at centre. Washing the ball ahead, the Meadow Parkers held the upper hand for the most part, but their shooting at times was execrable.
