It was always predicated that Barry Robson?s side this year would have a rollercoaster season as they have such a young squad but games like tonight will prove to be important leaning curves.
In a fairly even first half the Edinburgh side opened the scoring with one of the few chances they had but Aberdeen equalised just after the half hour mark when Ryan Duncan continued his fine form, scoring direct from a free kick. They also a had another couple of opportunities and Adam Emslie went close after being put through one on one.
But in the second half Hibernian overpowered the young Dons.
To their credit, Hibs upped their intensity and the tempo of the game after the interval and ran out deserving winners, even if the scoreline was a little harsh on Barry Robson?s side. Hibs went ahead of 53 minutes and made the game safe seven or eight minutes later. The fourth goal came with eight minutes to go.
The young Dons are next in action against Arbroath in Round Two of the SPFL Trust Trophy at Pittodrie next Saturday.
