Ken didn't impress on his first outing for the reserves, however a few weeks later he was showing himself to be the best wing half on the field. Beating his man with ease and supplying his forwards with a good range of passes. Despite these good performances Ken found himself out of the side in the middle of February but had returned to the side by the start of April 1949. He started the 1949-50 season at left half in the reserves but like many players that season failed to get any consistent run in the side. Having failed to make the breakthrough to the first team Ken found himself freed along with thirteen other players at the end of the season. He would later turn out for Aldershot and then in non-league football.
