Profile: |
A product of the Youth System at Pittodrie, Derek first joined up in 1995. he was pretty much a fixture in youth and then reserve teams, scoring many goals at that level, breaking into the first team at the turn of the century. Returned to his former club after four seasons elsewhere. Derek made 129 appearances in his five years as a Don before the midfielder's move to Dunfermline in 2003. He had spells at St Johnstone and Partick
Thistle but Derek had little hesitation in signing a new contract with the Dons in 2007 and brought his total number of Aberdeen apperances to 253 with 23 goals before it was announced at the end of season 2010-2011 that his contract would not be renewed. In recognition of the sterling service that Derek had given Aberdeen, manager Craig Brown gave him the captaincy for his last few games at Pittodrie.
A very intelligent, hard working and committed footballer, Derek's final farewell at Pittodrie earned him an affactionate ovation from the home crowd.
