Profile: |
Hugh McVean joined the Pittodrie Staff in 1945 from Clydebank Juniors, and had previously seen service with Vale of Leven and Shawfield Juniors. Hugh was a machine tool fitter in the Singer factory at Clydebank and lived near his work, though he'd have been more than happy to exchange his Clydebank home for one in Aberdeen.
Began his career with Clydebank as an inside-right, when he set up a club record by scoring three goals in 2 1/2 minutes, and in his first season saw his club take second place in the League and went on to win it in the following season.
Thoroughly enjoyed his outings with the senior Dons and appreciated the experience gained. He took most pride in his display against Partick Thistle at Firhill. Hugh was keen on swimming and snooker, but preferred a quiet evening at home with his Wife and Son, and his stamps.
Hugh was one of the brighter lights in the Dons Reserve side.
