Had both his legs broken during his career, the second time being on Christmas Eve 1955. In armed forces at start of season 1959-60. Whilst playing for St. Mirren he played in their Cup Final appearance of 1962 having played against them for Aberdeen in 1959. Managed St Mirren 1978-81; Kilmarnock 1981-85, also had a spell as coach at Southampton.
