During the Second World War, with players of all clubs away from home base, it was not unusual for clubs to invite them to play as a guest wherever they might be based. York City wanted to field Andy, was working for the ARP full time, at one point, but Aberdeen asked for £5,000 insurance and York promptly lost interest. Died in Inverness, 19th January 1972.
