Tremendously popular with Aberdeen's supporters because of his chirpy character, ability and workrate, he was regarded as "one of our own." Nicky was a great example of the successful hard work put into the AFC Youth Academy. He came up through the elite development system and captained the Under 19s and Under 20s before breaking into the first team squad, where although much admired he struggled to gain a starting place.
In April 2015, in a quest for more regular first-team football, Nicky signed a pre-contract agreement with Dundee FC.
